PENGENALAN PERPUSTAKAAN KELURAHAN SEBAGAI UPAYA MENUMBUHKAN MINAT LITERASI SISWA KELAS 4-5 SDN JREBENG KULON

The literacy level of elementary students in the Jrebeng Kulon area still faces several challenges, particularly due to limited access to reading materials at home and the low utilization of public facilities such as the local community library. Many students perceive reading merely as a school obligation rather than an activity that broadens knowledge and strengthens thinking skills. To address this issue, the study involved 30 students from grades 4 and 5 of SDN Jrebeng Kulon 1 and 2 to introduce the community library as an alternative learning resource and to enhance their understanding of literacy. This study aimed to familiarize students with the Jrebeng Kulon Community Library, provide a broader understanding of literacy beyond reading, and cultivate reading interest through direct engagement activities. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that students began to understand the functions of the library, recognized literacy as the ability to comprehend and utilize information, and showed an increased interest in reading after participating in the activities. These results demonstrate that community libraries hold strategic potential in strengthening community-based literacy.
