Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan is a forum publishing original articles related to research-based education or Islamic education. This journal is for professionals, academics, researchers, and scholars whose empirical work focuses on curriculum, teaching methodology, learning activity, teaching media, learning approaches, learning achievement, character education, evaluation in education and the relationship between Islam and education.

Authors are welcomed to submit their manuscripts for publication. AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan publishes articles on education in any area of study twice a year, every April and October. This journal charges no fees for publication.

Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

Studies submitted to the journal management system is evaluated by the editors and field editors within two weeks at the latest. The manuscripts are critically evaluated basing on the journal’s submission criteria:

  • scope of the journal and appropriateness to the field of study
  • evaluation of the similarity with Turnitin
  • appropriateness to the writing rules
  • publication language (APA 6 rules)

Studies passed from pre-assessment of editors and fields editors are forwarded to at least two referees anonymous referees who are specialized in the field concerned for contribution, originality, relevance, and presentation (double-blind review).

These referees state their decision whether they take the submitted manuscript into evaluation or not to the publication board within two weeks at the latest. If the referees don’t state an opinion to the publication board, new referees are assigned for the reviewing the manuscript.

The assigned referees evaluate the study by using standard manuscript evaluation form. Moreover the assigned referees may also present their views and thoughts in the full paper and send it to the publication board.  Evaluation of journal reviewers takes 4 weeks to 6 weeks.

Views of the referees serve as a guide to editors and field editors to make final decision. Final decision always belongs to editors and field editors.

Referees can state the following four views for the submitted manuscript:

  • Acceptance for publication
  • Acceptance for publication after minor revision (it is decided after revisions are checked by the editorial board)
  • Reviewing again after the major revision is done. After revision is made by the writers of the study, it is evaluated for the second tour.
  • It is not published (rejection)

After reviewers’ evaluation is completed, views of the referees are examined at least two weeks by editors and field editors.

Editors and field editors give final decision for the study by taking into consideration of views and suggestions of referees. The final decision is sent to the author.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Publication Ethic and Malpractice Statement

The publication process at AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan is the basis of the improvement and dissemination of information objectively and respectfully. Therefore, the procedures in this process improves the quality of the studies.

Peer-reviewed studies are the ones that support and materialize the scientific method. At this point, it is of utmost importance that all parties included in the publication process (authors, readers, and researchers, publisher, reviewers, and editors) comply with the standards of ethical considerations. AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan expects all parties to hold the following ethical responsibilities.

Ethical duties and responsibilities are written in the light of the guidelines and policies made by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

 

Responsibilities of Editors

The editor and field editors of AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan should hold the following ethical responsibilities that are based on the guides "COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" and "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" published as open Access by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

General Duties and Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for each study published in AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan. In this respect, the editors have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Making efforts to meet the demand for knowledge from readers and authors,
  • Ensuring the continuous development of the journal,
  • Managing the procedures aimed to improve the quality of the studies published in the journal,
  • Supporting freedom of expression,
  • Ensuring academic integrity,
  • Following the procedures without making concessions on intellectual property rights and ethical standards,
  • Being transparent and clear in issues that require correction or explanation.

Relationships with Readers

Editors must make decisions taking into consideration the knowledge, skills, and expectations of all readers, researchers, and practitioners need. They must also ensure that the published studies contribute to the literature and be original. Moreover, they must take notice of the feedback received from researchers and practitioners and provide explanatory and informative feedback.

Relationships with Authors

Editors have the following duties and responsibilities in their relations with authors:

  • Editors must make positive or negative decisions about the studies' importance, originality, validity, clarity in wording and suitability with the journal's aims and objectives.
  • Editors must accept the studies that are within the scope of the publication into pre-review process unless there are serious problems with the study.
  • Editors must not ignore positive suggestions made by reviewers unless there are serious problems with the study.
  • New editors, unless there are serious issues, must not change the previous editor's decisions about the studies.
  • Blind Review and Review Process must be published and editors must prevent possible diversions in the defined processes.
  • Editors must publish an Author's Guide that is comprehensive enough in answering queries by authors. This guide must be updated regularly.
  • Authors should be provided with explanatory and informative feedback.

Relationships with Reviewers

Editors have the following duties and responsibilities in their relations with reviewers:

Editors must

  • choose reviewers according to the subject of the study.
  • provide the information and guidance reviewers may need during the review process.
  • observe whether there are conflicting interests between reviewers and authors.
  • keep the identities of reviewers confidential in blind review.
  • encourage the reviewers to review the manuscript in an unbiased, scientific and objective tone.
  • evaluate reviewers regularly based on criteria like performance and timing.
  • develop practices and policies that increase the performance of reviewers.
  • take the necessary steps to update the reviewer pool dynamically.
  • prevent unkind and unscientific reviews.
  • make an effort to ensure the reviewer pool has a wide range.

Relationships with the Editorial Advisory Board

Editors must make sure that the members of the Editorial Advisory Board follow the procedures in accordance with the publication policies and guidelines, and must inform the members about the publication policies and developments. The editors must also train new members of the Editorial Advisory Board and provide the information they need.

Moreover, editors must

  • ensure that the members of the Editorial Advisory Board review the manuscripts in an unbiased and independent manner.
  • select the new members of the Editorial Advisory Board from those who can contribute to the journal and are qualified enough.
  • send manuscripts for review based on the subject of expertise of the Editorial Advisory Board.
  • regularly communicate with the Editorial Advisory Board.
  • arrange regular meetings with the Editorial Advisory Board for the development of publication policies and the journal.

 

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher as appropriate.

 

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

 

Duties of Reviewers Contribution to Editorial Decisions

AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan uses double-blind review process. Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions. The editor communicates with the author to improve the standard-quality of the paper.

 

Plagiarism Policy

Editorial board recognizes that plagiarism is not acceptable and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified using TURNITIN.

Definition:
Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work".

Policy:
Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source needs to be clearly identified as different from the present original text by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.

Any text of an amount exceeding fair use standards (herein defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent thereof) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s) and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publication. When plagiarism is identified, the Editor in Chief responsible for the review of this paper and will agree on measures according to the extent of plagiarism detected in the paper in agreement with the following guidelines:

Level of Plagiarism
1.Minor: A short section of another article is plagiarized without any significant data or idea taken from the other paper.
Action: A warning is given to the authors and a request to change the text and properly cite the original article is made.

2.Intermediate: A significant portion of a paper is plagiarized without proper citation to the original paper.
Action: The submitted article is rejected and the authors are forbidden to submit further articles for one year.

3. Severe: A significant portion of a paper is plagiarized that involves reproducing original results or ideas presented in another publication.
Action: The paper is rejected and the authors are forbidden to submit further articles for five years.

It is understood that all authors are responsible for the content of their submitted paper as they all sign this journal Copyright Transfer Form. If a penalty is imposed for plagiarism, all authors will be subject to the same penalty.

If the second case of plagiarism by the same author(s) is identified, a decision on the measures to be enforced will be made by the Editorial board (Editor-in-Chief, and Editorial members) with the Chair of the Editor in Chief. The author(s) might be forbidden to submit further articles forever.

This policy applies also to material reproduced from another publication by the same author(s). If an author uses text or figures that have previously been published, the corresponding paragraphs or figures should be identified and the previous publication referenced. It is understood that in case of a review paper or a paper of a tutorial nature much of the material was previously published.

The author should identify the source of the previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and the publisher. If an author submits a manuscript to this journal with significant overlap with a manuscript submitted to another journal simultaneously, and this overlap is discovered during the review process or after the publications of both papers, the editor of the other journal is notified and the case is treated as a severe plagiarism case. Significant overlap means the use of identical or almost identical figures and identical or slightly modified text for one half or more of the paper. For self-plagiarism of less than one half of the paper but more than one-tenth of the paper, the case shall be treated as intermediate plagiarism. If self-plagiarism is confined to the methods section, the case shall be considered as minor plagiarism.
 
If an author uses some of his previously published material to clarify the presentation of new results, the previously published material shall be identified and the difference to the present publication shall be mentioned. Permission to republish must be obtained from the copyright holder. In the case of a manuscript that was originally published in conference proceedings and then is submitted for publication in this journal either in identical or in expanded form, the authors must identify the name of the conference proceedings and the date of the publication and obtain permission to republish from the copyright holder. The editor may decide not to accept this paper for publication.

However, an author shall be permitted to use material from an unpublished presentation, including visual displays, in a subsequent journal publication. In the case of a publication being submitted, that was originally published in another language, the title, date, and journal of the original publication must be identified by the authors, and the copyright must be obtained. The editor may accept such a translated publication to bring it to the attention of a wider audience. The editor may select a specific paper that had been published (e.g. a “historic” paper) for republication in order to provide a better perspective of a series of papers published in one issue of this journal. This republication shall be clearly identified as such and the date and journal of the original publication shall be given, and the permission of the author(s) and the publisher shall be obtained.

Layout editor for the journal is responsible for maintaining the list of authors subjected to penalties and will check that no authors of a submitted paper are on this list. If a banned author is identified, the layout editor will inform the Editor-in-Chief who will take appropriate measures. This policy will be posted on the website with the instructions for submitting a manuscript, and a copy will be sent to the authors with the confirmation email upon initial receipt of their original manuscript. A sentence shall be added to the copyright transfer form to indicate that the author(s) have read the Plagiarism Policy.

 

Author Fee

AL-MUADDIB: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan charges the following author fees.

Article Submission: 0.00 (IDR)
Authors are not required to pay an Article Submission Fee as part of the submission process to contribute to review costs.
