Authorship Criteria
Authorship Criteria
Every author listed in an article published in Tasamuh: Journal of Islamic Studies must meet all of the following criteria:
- Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
- Draft the manuscript or critically revise it for important intellectual content.
- Provide final approval of the version to be published.
- Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that any questions concerning its accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Authorship must be based on genuine academic contributions. Academic position, professional status, personal relationships, or administrative involvement alone does not constitute sufficient grounds for authorship.
Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributors
Contributors who do not meet all the authorship criteria must not be listed as authors. Individuals who provide technical assistance, data collection support, language editing, funding assistance, or general supervision may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section when their contributions are relevant and their consent has been obtained.
Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Tasamuh: Journal of Islamic Studies does not tolerate authorship practices that violate the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics. Unacceptable practices include:
- Gift or Honorary Authorship: Listing an individual as an author despite their failure to meet the authorship criteria, including solely on the basis of academic position, seniority, or institutional status.
- Guest Authorship: Including an individual who does not meet the authorship criteria to enhance the article's reputation or increase its chances of acceptance.
- Ghost Authorship: Excluding an individual who has made substantial academic contributions and meets the authorship criteria.
- Purchased Authorship: Buying, selling, or exchanging authorship positions in a scholarly publication.
- AI Authorship: Listing a generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool or system as an author. AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume the responsibilities, accountability, or legal and ethical obligations required of human authors.
Author Contributions
All authors must make genuine academic contributions to the research and preparation of the manuscript. Such contributions may include the formulation of research ideas, development of the research design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of findings, manuscript drafting, and substantive intellectual revision.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that the contributions of all authors can be transparently described when requested by the editorial team. The order of authorship must be determined by mutual agreement among the authors and should reflect their respective contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.
The use of generative AI tools in preparing a manuscript must be disclosed when required by the journal's policies and must comply with applicable publication ethics standards. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of the entire manuscript, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools.
Corresponding Author
The corresponding author represents all co-authors and is responsible for managing communication with Tasamuh: Journal of Islamic Studies throughout the submission, peer-review, revision, and publication processes.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
- Ensuring that all authors have read and approved the submitted manuscript and all subsequent revisions.
- Ensuring that the names, affiliations, and other author information are accurate and complete.
- Providing ORCID identifiers for authors who have registered for them.
- Ensuring that all authors are aware of and agree to the submission of the manuscript to Tasamuh: Journal of Islamic Studies.
- Serving as the primary liaison between all authors and the journal's editorial team throughout the editorial process.
Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or change the order of authors after manuscript submission must be submitted in writing to the editor, accompanied by a clear and justified explanation. Such requests must include written consent from all authors, including any individuals who will be added or removed from the authorship list.
Changes in authorship after a manuscript has been accepted are generally not permitted, except in exceptional circumstances and subject to the review and approval of the Editor-in-Chief.
All changes in authorship must be justified by legitimate academic reasons, supported by the agreement of the relevant authors, and consistent with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics. The journal reserves the right to reject requests that do not satisfy these requirements.
