Conflict Of Interest

USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam is committed to ensuring that all editorial and peer-review decisions are fair, objective, transparent, independent, and free from inappropriate influence. All authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that may influence their professional judgment, academic objectivity, or responsibilities throughout the research and publication process.

A conflict of interest may arise when personal, professional, financial, academic, institutional, religious, or other relationships could reasonably be perceived as influencing the objectivity or integrity of research, the peer-review process, or editorial decision-making.

In the field of Islamic Family Law, conflicts of interest may also arise from professional relationships with religious courts, legal institutions, government agencies, religious organizations, or other parties whose interests are directly or indirectly related to the research.

1. Authors

Authors are required to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest at the time of manuscript submission.

Potential conflicts may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial relationships, research grants, sponsorships, or funding arrangements that could influence the research findings or their interpretation.

  • Employment, professional affiliations, or institutional appointments.

  • Personal, family, or professional relationships with individuals or organizations involved in the research.

  • Academic or professional competition that may influence the objectivity of the research.

  • Intellectual property interests, including patents, copyrights, or other proprietary rights.

  • Institutional relationships with religious courts, Islamic legal organizations, government agencies, or other entities relevant to the research.

  • Professional involvement in legal cases, judicial proceedings, family dispute resolution, or legal advisory activities directly related to the manuscript.

  • Religious, organizational, or ideological affiliations that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the interpretation or presentation of research findings.

  • Other relationships or circumstances that may affect the independence, credibility, or objectivity of the research.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors should include the following statement in their manuscript:

Conflict of Interest: The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest related to the publication of this article.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all relevant conflicts of interest involving all co-authors are accurately and transparently disclosed.

Disclosure of a conflict of interest does not automatically disqualify a manuscript from consideration. However, the editorial team may require additional information or implement appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the publication process.

2. Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before accepting an invitation to review a manuscript.

Reviewers should decline the invitation if they:

  • Have a close personal, family, academic, or professional relationship with one or more of the authors.

  • Have recently collaborated with the authors on research projects, publications, or other academic activities.

  • Work at the same institution as an author or have a significant institutional relationship that may compromise impartiality.

  • Have direct academic or professional competition with the authors.

  • Have a financial, institutional, or professional interest related to the research.

  • Have been directly involved in legal proceedings, judicial decisions, mediation activities, or other legal matters examined in the manuscript.

  • Have organizational, religious, or other affiliations that may reasonably compromise their ability to evaluate the manuscript objectively.

  • Believe that their relationship with the manuscript, its authors, or the subject matter could affect their impartiality.

Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, the accuracy of legal reasoning, relevance to Islamic Family Law, and compliance with academic and publication ethics standards.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information, legal analysis, research findings, or confidential materials obtained during the peer-review process for personal, professional, academic, or financial benefit.

If a conflict of interest becomes apparent after accepting a review assignment, the reviewer must immediately inform the Editorial Office and, where appropriate, withdraw from the review process.

3. Editors and Editorial Team

Editors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence their editorial judgment or compromise the independence of the manuscript evaluation process.

An editor should not handle a manuscript when the editor:

  • Is an author or co-author of the manuscript.

  • Has a close personal, family, academic, or professional relationship with an author.

  • Has a significant academic, institutional, or professional conflict with an author.

  • Has a financial or other material interest related to the manuscript.

  • Has participated directly in the legal case, judicial proceeding, research project, or institutional activity discussed in the manuscript.

  • Has another relationship or interest that may compromise, or appear to compromise, editorial impartiality.

In such circumstances, the manuscript will be assigned to another qualified editor who has no relevant conflict of interest.

Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, originality, relevance to Islamic Family Law, methodological rigor, accuracy of legal interpretation, and compliance with the journal's publication standards.

The editorial team must ensure that institutional affiliations, professional relationships, religious organizational interests, commercial considerations, or personal preferences do not improperly influence manuscript evaluation, peer-review outcomes, or final publication decisions.

USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam upholds editorial independence and provides equal consideration to manuscripts representing diverse scholarly perspectives, schools of Islamic jurisprudence, and approaches to contemporary Islamic Family Law, provided that they meet the journal's academic and ethical standards.

4. Funding and Financial Interests

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support for their research and any relevant financial interests that could influence the research process, analysis, interpretation, or publication of findings.

Funding information should be included in the manuscript where applicable.

Potential sources of funding may include universities, research institutions, government agencies, religious organizations, legal institutions, professional associations, and other supporting organizations.

Authors should ensure that funding disclosures are accurate, complete, and transparent.

Where applicable, authors should also disclose whether funding organizations or supporting institutions had any role in research design, data collection, legal analysis, interpretation of findings, manuscript preparation, or the decision to submit the manuscript for publication.

Financial support or institutional sponsorship must not compromise the independence of legal analysis, the accuracy of research findings, or the integrity of scholarly conclusions.

5. Management of Conflicts of Interest

When a conflict of interest is disclosed or identified, the Editor-in-Chief of USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam will assess its nature, significance, and potential influence on the research or editorial process.

The Editor-in-Chief will determine appropriate measures to protect the integrity, independence, and fairness of manuscript evaluation and publication.

Possible actions include:

  • Assigning the manuscript to an alternative editor who has no relevant conflict of interest.

  • Appointing an alternative reviewer with appropriate expertise and independence.

  • Requesting additional disclosure, clarification, or supporting documentation from the relevant individual.

  • Requiring a conflict-of-interest disclosure statement to be included in the published article.

  • Consulting independent experts when conflicts involve complex legal, professional, institutional, or ethical considerations.

  • Taking other appropriate measures to ensure impartial editorial evaluation and decision-making.

If the Editor-in-Chief has a conflict of interest, responsibility for handling the affected manuscript should be delegated to another qualified editor without a relevant conflict.

Failure to disclose a significant conflict of interest may result in further investigation and appropriate editorial action in accordance with the publication ethics policies of USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam.

Where an undisclosed conflict of interest is identified after publication, the editorial team may assess whether a disclosure update, correction, expression of concern, or other action is necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

6. Confidentiality and Publication Ethics

USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam treats conflict-of-interest disclosures confidentially and handles them in accordance with recognized standards of publication ethics.

Information concerning potential conflicts of interest will be evaluated responsibly and shared only with individuals who require access for legitimate editorial or ethical purposes, except where disclosure is necessary under the journal's policies or applicable requirements.

The journal follows established publication ethics principles and may refer to the guidelines and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when identifying, evaluating, and managing conflicts of interest.

The journal is particularly committed to ensuring that research involving marriage, divorce, inheritance, child custody, women's and children's rights, religious court proceedings, family dispute resolution, and other sensitive issues in Islamic Family Law is conducted and published with appropriate academic independence.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to uphold professional integrity, ethical responsibility, impartiality, and transparency throughout the scholarly publication process.

Through this policy, USRAH: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam aims to maintain transparency, editorial independence, accountability, and public trust while supporting the publication of credible and high-quality scholarly research in Islamic Family Law and related legal studies.
