Authorship Criteria
JSE: Jurnal Sharia Economica
E-ISSN: 2828-4585 | P-ISSN: 2828-5514
1. Authorship Criteria
Every author listed in a manuscript submitted to JSE: Jurnal Sharia Economica must fulfill all of the following authorship criteria:
- Make a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the research, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data, particularly within the fields of Islamic Economics, Islamic Finance, Islamic Management, Islamic Accounting, Islamic Economic Law, and related interdisciplinary studies.
- Participate actively in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content, ensuring the scholarly quality, originality, and relevance of the research.
- Provide final approval of the manuscript version to be published and confirm that its contents accurately represent the research conducted.
- Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the research, including its accuracy, integrity, ethical compliance, and the appropriate investigation and resolution of questions concerning the reliability or validity of the scholarly work.
Authorship must be based on genuine academic contributions and intellectual responsibility. Academic qualifications, institutional positions, professional titles, administrative authority, financial support, or personal relationships alone do not justify authorship.
All listed authors are expected to comply with internationally recognized principles of research integrity, academic transparency, and responsible scholarly publication.
2. Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributors
Individuals who have contributed to the research or manuscript preparation but do not fulfill all authorship criteria must not be listed as authors. Their contributions may be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, provided that the acknowledgment accurately reflects their involvement and the individuals concerned have given their consent.
Such contributions may include:
- Technical assistance in research implementation or data processing.
- Administrative support during research activities.
- Assistance with data collection, surveys, interviews, or field observations.
- Language editing, proofreading, manuscript formatting, or translation.
- Financial support, institutional facilitation, or research funding.
- General academic supervision or professional consultation that does not constitute a substantial intellectual contribution to the manuscript.
Acknowledgments must not be used to misrepresent individual contributions or imply academic responsibility that has not been undertaken.
3. Unacceptable Authorship Practices
JSE: Jurnal Sharia Economica does not permit authorship practices that violate the principles of academic integrity, research ethics, transparency, and responsible scholarly publication.
The following practices are considered unacceptable:
- Gift or Honorary Authorship: Including an individual as an author without a substantial intellectual contribution to the research or manuscript, solely because of institutional authority, academic position, professional status, personal relationships, or other nonacademic considerations.
- Guest Authorship: Listing an individual who does not meet the established authorship criteria to enhance the manuscript's perceived credibility, academic prestige, or likelihood of publication.
- Ghost Authorship: Omitting an individual who has made substantial intellectual contributions and fulfills the authorship criteria, thereby concealing their legitimate academic involvement.
- Purchased Authorship: Buying, selling, exchanging, or commercially transferring authorship positions in scholarly publications.
- AI Authorship: Listing generative artificial intelligence tools, large language models, or automated systems as authors or co-authors. AI technologies cannot assume ethical accountability, legal responsibility, or intellectual ownership of research and therefore do not qualify for authorship.
- Coercive Authorship: Pressuring researchers, students, colleagues, or collaborators to include an individual as an author despite the absence of a qualifying intellectual contribution.
- Misrepresentation of Contributions: Providing inaccurate information about an author's involvement, responsibilities, institutional affiliation, or contribution to the research.
Any suspected authorship misconduct may be subject to editorial investigation. The journal may request supporting documentation, written clarification, or formal confirmation from the authors and relevant institutions.
4. Author Contributions
All authors must demonstrate genuine, identifiable, and verifiable contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.
Recognized contributions may include conceptualization, research design, methodology development, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of findings, manuscript drafting, critical intellectual revision, and research validation.
For transparency, JSE: Jurnal Sharia Economica encourages authors to describe their individual roles using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable.
These roles may include:
- Conceptualization: Formulating research ideas, objectives, and conceptual frameworks.
- Methodology: Designing research methods, analytical approaches, and methodological procedures.
- Investigation: Conducting experiments, fieldwork, interviews, surveys, or other research activities.
- Data Curation: Organizing, managing, verifying, and maintaining research data.
- Formal Analysis: Applying quantitative, qualitative, or other analytical techniques.
- Writing – Original Draft: Preparing the initial manuscript and presenting the research findings.
- Writing – Review & Editing: Critically reviewing, revising, and improving the intellectual quality of the manuscript.
- Supervision: Providing substantial scholarly oversight and intellectual guidance during the research process.
- Project Administration: Coordinating research activities and managing project implementation.
- Funding Acquisition: Securing financial resources necessary for the research.
Participation in an individual contributor role does not automatically establish authorship eligibility. Every listed author must satisfy all four authorship criteria established by the journal.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that individual contributions are accurately documented and can be explained to the editorial team upon request.
The order of authorship must be determined through mutual agreement among all authors, taking into consideration their respective intellectual contributions and responsibilities.
The use of generative AI tools during manuscript preparation must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with the journal's publication ethics policies. Authors retain full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the submitted manuscript, including any content produced with AI assistance.
5. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author must not make substantive manuscript changes, alter authorship arrangements, or submit declarations on behalf of co-authors without appropriate communication and agreement.
6. Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be formally submitted in writing to the editorial office of JSE: Jurnal Sharia Economica, accompanied by a clear and academically justified explanation.
The request must include:
- A detailed explanation of the proposed authorship change.
- Written consent from all existing authors.
- Written consent from any author being added, removed, or affected by the proposed modification.
- An updated author contribution statement, where applicable.
- Any additional supporting documentation requested by the editorial team.
Changes in authorship after manuscript acceptance are generally discouraged and will only be considered under exceptional circumstances, subject to editorial assessment and approval by the Editor-in-Chief.
Any approved changes must be based on legitimate academic considerations and must comply with the journal's standards of publication ethics, authorship transparency, and research integrity.
When an authorship dispute arises, the journal may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors and, where necessary, refer the matter to the relevant academic or research institutions.
The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected authorship misconduct and take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its publication ethics policies and applicable standards of scholarly publishing.
7. Commitment to Research Integrity
