TRANSFORMASI PENDIDIKAN MULTIKULTURAL DI PESANTREN TRADISIONAL DAN MODEREN

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), as Indonesia’s oldest educational institutions, play a vital role in shaping students’ character, morality, and understanding of cultural diversity. The transformation of multicultural education in both traditional and modern pesantren has become essential in addressing the challenges of globalization, cultural plurality, and technological development. This study aims to describe the similarities, differences, and transformational processes of multicultural education within both pesantren models. Using a literature review approach, the study examines relevant journals, books, and research findings. The results show that traditional pesantren cultivate multicultural values through local traditions, classical Islamic texts, and communal living, while modern pesantren integrate national curricula, innovative pedagogical approaches, and inclusive extracurricular programs. The transformation is driven by factors such as technological advancement and government support, yet hindered by cultural resistance and limited resources. Multicultural education in pesantren holds strong potential to develop tolerant, inclusive, and adaptive future generations.
